Radiometrics Midwest Corporation provides IEC 61000-4 series electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity testing for electronic and electrical products at our A2LA-accredited EMC laboratory in Romeoville, Illinois.
The IEC 61000-4 series defines standardized test methods used to evaluate how equipment responds to electromagnetic disturbances such as electrostatic discharge, radiated RF fields, electrical transients, surges, conducted RF disturbances, power-frequency magnetic fields, and voltage dips and interruptions.

IEC 61000-4-2 — Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) Immunity
Evaluates equipment immunity to electrostatic discharge events using contact, air, and indirect discharge methods as applicable.
IEC 61000-4-3 — Radiated RF Electromagnetic Field Immunity
Evaluates equipment performance when exposed to controlled radio-frequency electromagnetic fields.
IEC 61000-4-4 — Electrical Fast Transient/Burst Immunity
Evaluates equipment immunity to repetitive fast electrical transients that may occur on power, signal, and control connections.
IEC 61000-4-5 — Surge Immunity
Evaluates equipment immunity to high-energy electrical surges associated with switching and lightning-related disturbances.
IEC 61000-4-6 — Conducted RF Immunity
Evaluates equipment immunity to radio-frequency disturbances coupled onto power, signal, and control cables.
IEC 61000-4-8 — Power Frequency Magnetic Field Immunity
Evaluates equipment operation when exposed to power-frequency magnetic fields associated with electrical power systems and other current-carrying equipment.
IEC 61000-4-11 — Voltage Dips, Short Interruptions and Voltage Variations
Evaluates the response of AC-powered equipment to voltage dips, brief interruptions, and voltage variations.
Which IEC 61000-4 Tests Does My Product Need?
A product does not necessarily require every test in the IEC 61000-4 series. The required test methods, severity levels, frequency ranges, and performance criteria are normally established by the product, product-family, or generic EMC standard applicable to the equipment.
For example, equipment intended for an industrial environment may be subject to several immunity tests, while the requirements for medical, laboratory, commercial, or other equipment may be different.
