Radiometrics Midwest Corporation’s fully anechoic EMC chamber provides a controlled electromagnetic test environment for military, aerospace and specialized EMC testing.

Unlike a conventional semi-anechoic chamber with a reflective ground plane, the chamber incorporates electromagnetic absorber on the walls, ceiling and floor to reduce reflections throughout the test environment.

Fully Anechoic EMC Test Chamber

Our Braden shielded chamber is fully ferrite lined and measures approximately 10 × 22 × 10 feet.

The fully anechoic configuration provides a controlled environment for applicable radiated susceptibility, immunity and emissions measurements where reduced electromagnetic reflections are important to the test method.

The chamber complements Radiometrics’ 10-meter semi-anechoic chamber, compact semi-anechoic chamber and shielded enclosures.

Power and Equipment Support

Standard chamber power-line filters can accommodate up to 100 amps of three-phase power, supporting a wide range of powered electronic equipment and systems during EMC testing.

Customers with unusual power, interface or operating requirements should provide this information when requesting a quotation so Radiometrics can confirm the appropriate chamber and test configuration.

MIL-STD-461 EMC Testing

The fully anechoic chamber supports applicable MIL-STD-461 electromagnetic compatibility testing.

Depending on the required test method and configuration, testing can include applicable radiated emissions and radiated susceptibility measurements.

Radiometrics performs a broad range of MIL-STD-461 testing for military electronic equipment, subsystems and systems.

RTCA DO-160 Aerospace EMC Testing

The chamber also supports applicable RTCA DO-160 aerospace EMC testing.

Radiometrics performs multiple DO-160 electromagnetic compatibility test methods for airborne electronic equipment, including RF emissions and RF susceptibility testing.

The applicable chamber, test configuration, frequency range and test levels are selected according to the required DO-160 section and equipment qualification program.

Radiated RF Immunity and Susceptibility

A fully anechoic environment can be particularly useful for controlled RF field generation because absorber on the chamber surfaces reduces electromagnetic reflections.

The chamber has uniform-field characterization conforming to applicable IEC 61000-4-3 requirements, making it an important Radiometrics facility for radiated RF immunity testing as well as military and aerospace susceptibility testing.

Radiometrics can perform applicable radiated RF immunity and susceptibility testing for military, aerospace and other equipment requiring controlled electromagnetic field exposure.

Equipment operation and required performance criteria are monitored during exposure according to the applicable test specification.

Radiated Emissions and Engineering Measurements

The chamber can also support applicable radiated emissions measurements, engineering investigations and developmental EMC evaluations.

Applications can include:

  • Radiated emissions measurements
  • RF susceptibility and immunity testing
  • Pre-compliance evaluation
  • Engineering investigations
  • Comparative measurements
  • Design-change evaluation
  • EMC troubleshooting

The appropriate chamber and measurement configuration are selected based on the applicable standard, frequency range and equipment requirements.

Pre-Compliance Testing and EMC Troubleshooting

The fully anechoic chamber can be used for developmental testing before formal qualification.

Controlled measurements can help evaluate:

  • Shielding
  • Grounding and bonding
  • Cable configuration
  • Filtering
  • Enclosure design
  • Power supplies
  • Electronic circuitry
  • Equipment operating modes

Where practical, corrective changes can be evaluated during testing to determine whether they improve EMC performance.

Multiple EMC Test Environments

Radiometrics operates multiple chambers so the test environment can be selected for the product, standard and engineering objective.

Our facilities include:

  • 10-meter semi-anechoic chamber for large equipment and vehicle testing
  • Compact semi-anechoic chamber
  • Fully anechoic chamber
  • Shielded enclosures for specialized EMC measurements

This combination provides flexibility for commercial, military, aerospace, automotive and specialized EMC programs.
