Radiometrics Midwest Corporation operates dedicated shielded enclosures for specialized electromagnetic compatibility testing, engineering evaluation and troubleshooting.

These controlled electromagnetic environments complement our anechoic and semi-anechoic chambers and provide additional flexibility for military EMC testing, electrical transient testing, electrostatic discharge, shielding effectiveness and transfer impedance measurements.

Shielded EMC Test Enclosures

Shielded enclosures provide an electromagnetically controlled environment for test methods that do not require a conventional anechoic chamber.

Radiometrics maintains dedicated shielded test environments that can be configured for a variety of EMC measurements and specialized engineering programs.

Applications include:

  • Shielding Effectiveness Testing
  • Transfer impedance Testing
  • MIL-STD-461 Testing
  • Electrical transient Testing
  • Electrostatic discharge Testing
  • Conducted immunity Testing
  • Conducted emissions Testing
  • Pre-compliance Testing
  • EMC troubleshooting and engineering investigations

MIL-STD-461 Testing

Shielded test environments can be useful for applicable MIL-STD-461 conducted emissions, conducted susceptibility, transient and other EMC methods.

Radiometrics performs a broad range of MIL-STD-461 testing for military electronic equipment, subsystems and systems.

The appropriate test environment is selected based on the required MIL-STD-461 method, equipment configuration, frequency range and test level.

Electrical Transient Testing

Electronic equipment can be exposed to electrical disturbances through power, signal and control connections.

Radiometrics’ shielded test environments support applicable electrical transient and conducted immunity measurements for commercial, industrial, automotive, military and specialized equipment.

Testing can be coordinated with other EMC requirements when a product requires a broader qualification program.

Electrostatic Discharge Testing

Radiometrics performs applicable electrostatic discharge testing for commercial, industrial, medical, military, automotive and other electronic equipment.

A controlled test environment allows ESD testing to be performed while equipment operation and required performance are monitored.

Applicable testing can include IEC 61000-4-2 and other product- or industry-specific ESD requirements.

Shielding Effectiveness Testing

Radiometrics has extensive experience evaluating electromagnetic shielding performance for enclosures, materials, cables, connectors and other shielding systems.

Shielding effectiveness measurements can help determine whether a shielding system provides the required attenuation and can identify frequency ranges where shielding performance is reduced.

Radiometrics’ shielded environments support specialized shielding measurements as well as developmental investigations and troubleshooting.

Transfer Impedance Testing

Transfer impedance measurements are used to characterize shielding performance of cables, connectors, conduits and related structures.

Radiometrics has experience performing transfer impedance measurements for military, industrial and specialized EMC applications.

These measurements can be coordinated with shielding effectiveness and other EMC testing when required by the customer’s qualification or engineering program.

Conducted EMC Testing

Shielded test environments can also support applicable conducted emissions and conducted immunity measurements.

Testing may involve disturbances on power, signal or control connections depending on the applicable standard and equipment configuration.

The appropriate coupling equipment, test levels and monitoring are selected according to the applicable requirement.

Developmental Testing and EMC Troubleshooting

Shielded environments are particularly useful for focused engineering investigations where the objective is to understand an EMC problem rather than simply obtain a pass/fail result.

Radiometrics engineers can work with the customer’s engineering team to evaluate:

  • Shielding changes
  • Cable and connector configurations
  • Grounding and bonding
  • Power-input filtering
  • Interface filtering
  • Enclosure modifications
  • Transient protection
  • Equipment operating modes

Where practical, corrective changes can be evaluated during testing.

Multiple EMC Test Environments

Radiometrics’ shielded enclosures are part of a larger EMC facility that also includes:

  • 10-meter semi-anechoic chamber
  • Compact semi-anechoic chamber
  • Fully anechoic chamber
  • Additional specialized EMC test areas

This allows the test environment to be selected for the product, applicable standard and engineering objective.
